Can stains be removed?

The vast majority of stains can be removed during the natural cleaning process. We do carry an arsenal of chemicals that help us remove the more stubborn stains.

With over twenty years’ experience, we also used tricks of the trade to help with certain marks.

Whilst we aim to remove every issue from your carpet or upholstery, we never give a guarantee. The stain belongs to you, the customer.

Common Carpet Stains We Remove

Food & Drink

Coffee and tea

We use dedicated solutions for this issue. The tannins in the drink are what cause the stain. Always use cold water to extract this. Using hot water will bond the tannins to the fibres. Don’t use shop products.

Wine

A little more complicated, as we are now dealing with anthocyanins and tannins.

Curry

These are extremely difficult to remove, especially if the carpet is a natural fibre such as wool or sisal.

Chocolate

This is normally straightforward with a cold flush followed by hot water extraction.

Pet Stains

We strongly advise you DO NOT to use shop products

Dog urine- 

Our lovely canine friend will have accidents. Normally, flushing and the standard process, plus a urine deodoriser, are all we need.

One of the most common calls we receive is from customers who have successfully removed the visible urine stain, only to find the smell returns every time the weather becomes warm.

Cat Urine

A lot more toxic than dogs. The reason for this is that cats are smaller, so the concentration of urine is a lot more potent and may require a lot more chemistry.

There are instances where the penetration has penetrated the underlay and needs to be replaced.

Cat urine contains uric acid crystals that bind to surfaces.

Even when the carpet appears clean, these crystals remain.

On humid days, they reactivate.

That’s why many customers call us:

“It smelled fine for a week…”

Dirrahea

Not pleasant. Again, a lot of cold flushing to break down the particles. Treated with a dedicated solution to neutralise any odours, followed by steam cleaning.

Vomit 

The acidity projected can damage certain fibres. We would need to inspect this for you.

Neutralising the smell requires a combination of solutions and deodorisers.

To ensure we capture all the biological matter, we use UV torches.

For all the above, no two jobs are the same. As such, we can’t provide a costing until we have physically needed the job.

Ink

Like any liquid, this can sink, so you need to act quickly. Control is key. Work from the outside to the centre.

Paint

Most clean this up straight away. When we turn up and we are faced with a paint issue.

We use a professional solvent-based stain remover designed for paints, adhesives, and grease-based contamination.

This is normally all we need for water-based paint. Gloss hardens so we may use sandpaper, then gels to break this down before any extraction takes place.

Wax

Coloured wax may leave the dye in the fibres. Unfortunately, we don’t know the outcome of this, as some quality candles are better than others. For the homeowner, if you place a towel over the area, then some greaseproof paper.

Using an iron on a warm setting and using the tip, go over the section. This may take some time to complete. But you have to be patient so as not to burn the fibres. Once removed, we can now clean.

Grease

Now this can be in a solid or liquid form. Again, we will use dedicated gels to assist in breaking this down.

Blood

Mud

Remove any solids and then leave to dry. Once completely dry, just vacuum. You may need to use a nylon brush also.

Makeup

We call this war paint. Lipstick, mascara, and blusher, etc.

The makeup (no pun intended) of these products varies. The same principle applies, but some require more work than others.

These vary from food and drink spills, high-volume traffic areas, and oil.

Pet Urine & Odour Removal

We have already touched on the urine issues, but we will delve into this a little deeper.

 

Why does urine smell?

Urine has an odour for every living thing. And odours vary. Sex, hormones, being unwell.

Why do smells come back?

Smells can return if they are not treated correctly. You have to remember that bacteria cause an odour. And bacteria can only be removed using specific chemicals and steam extraction. I have yet, in all my twenty-plus years, come across a shop product that eliminates bacteria and odour-related issues. It may mask them for a little while.

Bacteria.

These microscopic organisms are not visible to the naked eye but can cause a lot of issues for some people. We use steam vapour at 120c to totally eradicate these at source.

Underlay contamination.

When the underlay is contaminated, it needs to be replaced. The underlay will continue to degrade and break down otherwise.

Why DIY sprays fail.

Your shop products only mask smells. They don’t remove them.

Why do some stains come back?

This can be both frustrating for the homeowner and the technician.

This is called wicking. This is when a spillage of some sort has sunk into the back of the carpet and underlay.

When professional carpet cleaning occurs, powerful machinery is used. The force of the water injected into the carpet releases all the contaminants and is sucked back via the vacuum system.

However, whatever precautions we take, we can’t access the rear of the carpet or underlay.

When drying occurs, that stain now rises to the fibres and re-shows a stain.

This can normally just be wiped away with a clean, damp cloth.

Why Does My Carpet Still Smell?

Smoke

Smoke from cigarettes, drugs, or even fire can be difficult to remove. For this, we use specialist chemicals and ozone machines.

Pets

Animals sweat, roll around, and slobber. All that moisture goes somewhere. This is why, just from a health benefit, we suggest a 6-monthly professional steam clean.

Spilt milk

It’s one of those smells that lingers.

We have to literally get to the bottom of it to ensure we capture all the liquid. Neutralise it and extract.

Can Every Stain Be Removed?

Bleach

This will strip colour instantly from the fibres and create permanent damage. For example, urine can turn carpets a certain colour. Blacken them, or turn them orange or yellow. The latter will not recover from any cleaning.

Burns 

Irons and hair tongs are the normal culprits. These can be repaired if the owner has Donar carpet.

Permanent dye 

Dyes will become cured in a natural fibre such as wool. In synthetic carpet, they have some nylon and polypropylene. Sometime salvageable.

Sun

This is more problematic in churches. UV rays remove the colour slowly. Have you ever gone to a church where the carpet is brilliant red and pink, or white in other sections?
